About the project
A truly beautiful home built in the 1960's in a cypress forest in Delta, BC that was badly in need of renovation. This home had been renovated in the 1980's in a manner that did not do justice to the fine Mid-Century bones of the home. The renovation was choppy and was not sympathetic to its clean modern lines. We removed the old cornice mouldings, and a jagged wall that separated the kitchen from the living room of the home. This allowed natural light to flow through the space, and opened up views to both the front and back of the house.
Although our clients made it through the substantial renovation in good humour, there were times when their Chocolate Lab, Hendrix, wasn't happy.

There was enough beautiful going on in this mid-century home that the important thing to keep in mind while designing it was to keep the lines and the colours simple.

The clients many antique and older furniture pieces were re-used in the new plan. They add charater and depth to the space.

Although the furniture in the home is new, it keeps an esthetic that places it firmly in the era of the home.

Once the kitchen space was opened up to the rest of the home, the repetition of windows on either side of the home and the regimentation of the beams became a focal point.
